Something About Advertizing (:
How does advertising influence consumption?
- Advertizing convinces people to do something, buying is one of those doing actions. The thing about advertizements is they don't talk about the bad sides, on how big of an impact it has on others or environment, so when people look at the advertizements they would want to buy it because they don't know the negative effects of the product.
Do you think citizens are sufficiently informed about the sustainability of our consumption habits? If not, how can we become more informed about sustainability issues?
- No, because low-income people don't spend as much, therefore they don't about consuming large amount of things. Not having enough money, they would not be educated as much, so they might not know how to read. Some low-income people don't know about the advertizing of products because they don't own television sets and people usually would stick posters in the cities, not in the outskirts of town. Maybe people could start raising awareness by sticking posters everywhere, with lots of pictures (for those who can't read) and maybe people would be more informed about the sustainability issues.
Do you think these advertising techniques influence what you and your friends purchase?
- Yes, because now that we've learnt about it in school, we will consider about it more when we buy things in the outside world. If it was for a good cause, then we would definately buy it. But if the thing isn't neccessary, or it's just advertized in a way that looks cool, then it's probably not needed and should be thought over before buying it.

Examples for Sustainable Development :]
1. We should plant trees because we are cutting down to much.
2. We should build unharmful dams (unlike the Three Gorges Dams) to make hydro electricity.
3. We should use solar energy to charge things and for other electicity uses.
4. We should make windmills to make wind energy.
5. We should use recycled stuff.
6. We should renew stuff and use that.
7. We should use efficient water fixtures.

Migration ♥ (;
I know this girl who migrated twice in her lifetime so far. These movements consisted of push factors and no pull factors whatsoever. She was born in America, living all her life learning and adapting to the life over there. Her parents, though, were Vietnamese and were always busy, so the one who actually took care of her was her grandma. In December 2005, her grandma felt sick and decided she wanted to die in her homeland, Vietnam. She flew there and two weeks later passed away. This girl, had to skip school, and live with her uncle. She made a temporary internal migration to North Carolina from Georgia. This region was much different from her old one. It was lonelier, and the last thing she wanted was to be friendless. She hated it there, her cousins were mean and she was living in such a dirty environment, for it was all rural. She missed all the urban stuff in Atlanta; all the shopping, the water parks, the clean schools. But it wasn't her choice anymore to choose where she wanted to live.
After about two months, when her dad came back from her grandma's funeral, he sadly confirmed that he couldn't take care of her anymore; not because he didn't want to, but because he couldn't make as much money. That was when she made her second migration, this time, external. She flew all the way to Vietnam with her aunt who made a good living. I guess this changed her life big time. She got sent to a private British school, it was much different from American schools, and spelling was one of the many differences. It was hotter in Vietnam, and it made her skin turn from peachy-pale to yellowy-tan, which was not that bad. The food there was amazing, and she was growing so fast. The only bad thing was that she was always far away from her Dad, and she was such a Daddy's girl. She missed all the American stuff, but relocating to another area made her think differently about the world. It was so different, so new to her. She liked the experience. She now goes to American International School, where true friends were made, American history coming back, and she felt like herself again, except more mature. And that girl... is me (: ♥

Ice Cream Dreamland ♥ (:
My world is called Ice Cream Dreamland. It has one continent on a large body of water, called Whip Cream Ocean. The continent has five countries; Rainbow Raspberries, Sherbert Shake, Mocha Madness, Hint of Mint, and Lemon-Lime Love. The Sprinkle Desert is mostly stretched on Rainbow Raspberries, but also on Sherbert shake, which is on the east coast. Sherbert Shake has two mountain ranges, Mount Coney and Mount Popsicle; which is south of Mount Coney. On the borders of Sherbert Shake and Mocha Madness, which is on the south coast, lay Lake Milkshake. On the west coast, the White Choco River stretches through Mocha Madness, Hint of Mint, and Lemon-Lime Love. Southwest of the continent, there is Vanilla Volcano. The place was discovered by a group of Gummi Bears, who settled in Mocha Madness and spreaded to Rainbow Raspberries, Lemon-Lime Love, and Hint of Mint. On the other side, Sherbert Shake, a group of Gummi Worms settled there.
In 3270, the Sprinkle Storm displaced the Gummi Bears in Rainbow Raspberries, and killed the Gummi Worms in Sherbert Shake. Therefore, the ones that are lucky and lived all moved south and east to Mocha Madness to settle. Then in 3275, in the Northwest of Whip Cream Ocean, there are moving islands. These islands are called Dark Chocolate Disease Islands. They carry disease. When they got close to the shore of Lemon-Lime Love, the people, which are gummi bears, got killed and eaten up by the Ants. The Ants are vicious and are willing to eat everything on Ice Cream Dreamland. The Lemon-Lime Love survivors moved south to Hint of Mint.
The Gummi Bears of Hint of Mint lived near Vanilla Volcano. Whenever the volcano erupts, it did not cause natural disasters. It shoots out vanilla. The Gummi Bears thought and thought, and since the White Choco River ran through their land, vanilla lava spreaded into the river. While the Gummi Bears tried to save the river from polluting, one of the bears swallowed some. He thought he would die, but a new recipe is discovered. Since then people waited for the Vanilla Volcano to erupt and they would build graham cracker houses to live in near the White Choco River for the famous discovered drink. In 3480, the popular Sherbert Shake Gummi Worms found out that Whip Cream Ocean is the number one source they needed for living, since it was edible. The idea spreaded and all the gummies moved their houses near the coast.
Back in 3200, the gummi bears and worms worked together to built a road called Honey Highway, which runs all over the continent. Since the White Choco River starts from the North and ends in the South of the continent, the gummies built a bridge, called the Butter Bridge. The road and bridge was for built easier travel.
There are five regions in Ince Cream Dreamland, as well as countries. Because the first Gummi Bears settled in Mocha Madness, it has the biggest region; almost everything happens there. As the Gummi Bears moved North, Northwest, and West, they settled in Rainbow Raspberries, Lemon-Lime Love, and Hint of Mint. Therefore, Gummi Bears lived in those four countries. On the other hand, Sherbert Shake was founded by Gummi Worms. Their country is the second biggest, and they were the only one who lived near mountain ranges. All regions were on the search for the Hidden Chocolate Chip Caves, and all regions had a cave they haven't found out about yet. As for the climate, they were all the same, because Ice Cream Dreamland is tropical.

Family Tree Presentations - What I've Learned (:
What I've learned through all my classmates' presentations was that most of our grandparents or grandparents' parents tend to give birth a lot. Before, knowing the fact that my grandma had 10 children was amazing. I mean, I don't know if amazing is the right word to describe it. But then listening to other people's family tree presentations, I figured it's so normal to the people in the olden days. I don't think people will have big families in the future because they are too into they're work and modern business stuff that they don't really care as much as the people before did about extending the generations. I've also learned that mostly everyone in the class who's Vietnamese celebrate the same holidays. I mean they do the same thing. And so do I. Because I'm half Vietnamese. And I celebrate the way they do as well.
I've noticed that the people in my class aren't what they seem. Sure, they go to the same school as I do. And yes, they're studying in Vietnam. But beneath what they wear and how they look, there are stories that are so unpredictable to the naked eye. People like me, and Darlene. If other people around us didn't hear our accents, probably they consider us fully Vietnamese because of the hint of Asian in our faces and the fact that we're brunettes. Jennifer Fuhr is another example, who would've known she was from Norway. She looks Vietnamese! As do all the students in the whole school, except for the ones who are blond and actually look Foreign. We're all people, living in the same country; but our backgrounds describes who we really are (:

Atlanta, Georgia ♥ [:
*Describe a place or region that you have been to. Talk about at least 3 physical characteristics and 2 human/enviroment interaction.
Lenox Square in Atlanta, Georgia :) |
I live in Atlanta, Georgia all my life, well, mostly all my life. It has four seasons like most states in America. In the Summer it gets so much hotter than Vietnam. It's full of roads and streets, and it's mostly for businesses and schools. The land there is very flat, but the grass and trees are very green. It gets a little chilly through Autumn, and that's when I rake the leaves and go for long walks, watching the leaves fall. When Winter comes, it's beyond freezing. It's even colder than Alaska, not that I've been to Alaska, but I'm guessing they're the same temperature. That's when I go outside and build snowmen with snow that are fifteen inches tall. I always have to lift my feet up to walk in that. I also go ice-skating in the rinks and I have to wear so many layers of clothes because when I skate, the wind blows into my face and it really numbs my nose, ears, fingers, and toes. On the other hand, when Spring comes, I get to take off most layers that were on me and wear thin clothing. It's very dewy and wet in Spring, and I used to go pick flowers all the time; little dandelions to make wishes and those yellow & red flowers with honey in them. I love the place because I can do so many things in so little land.
